Oxenham Craft Distillery

Discover the family-owned Mauritian distillery behind Mango Bay, where generations of experience, local sugarcane and a distinctive approach to rum-making come together.

Mango Bay is produced in partnership with Oxenham Craft Distillery, one of only six operating distilleries in Mauritius and a family business with roots on the island spanning four generations.

What makes Oxenham particularly distinctive is its ability to work across both traditions of Mauritian rum.

It was the first distillery on the island to produce rum from both molasses and pure sugarcane juice, and remains the only Mauritian distillery producing molasses-based rum using pot stills.

Molasses and sugarcane juice are sourced from local farmers, with the family placing particular importance on the relationship between Mauritian soil, climate, sugarcane variety and flavour.

Production is deliberately considered and small-scale. Long, cool fermentations encourage aromatic complexity before distillation through the distillery's hybrid copper pot stills. Ageing then takes place across a carefully selected collection of casks, including Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry, French and American oak, Bourbon, Cognac and sweet wine casks.

It was this combination of family heritage, technical expertise and access to both Mauritian rum traditions that made Oxenham the natural home for Mango Bay.

Working alongside the Oxenham family, Master Maker & Blender J. Arthur Rackham brings together aged molasses and pure sugarcane juice rums to create Mango Bay — a blend designed to express the depth, character and distinctive potential of rum made entirely in Mauritius.

Oxenham Craft Distillery and Mango Bay share a belief that great rum begins with provenance: the people, sugarcane, climate and craft of Mauritius itself.
